4Quarters Weekly College Pick’em: Week 13

We’re getting down to the end of the season and the Pick’em has been tweaked. Until the bowls we’ll pick from the ten best games of the weeks, not holding ourselves to the conferences that we had the first 11 weeks. Ok, mostly good games as Jerry’s (Florida State) and I’s (Nebraska) favorite teams in the mix.

Thursday (Thanksgiving)
TCU Horned Frogs (6-4, 3-4 Big XII) @ 16 Texas Longhorns (8-2, 5-2 Big XII), 6:30 pm/ESPN

Mike – The Horned Frogs and Red Raiders are taking the place of the Texas A&M Fighting Aggies which is a shame. This won’t change the fact that I think Texas wins this game easily. The Pick: Texas 28 TCU 10
Jerry – Texas held their famed Hex Rally (which used to be held for the Texas A&M game) for this game. Admit it, Longhorn fans, you kinda miss the Aggies, don’t you? The Pick: Texas 27 TCU 17

(Black) Friday
Heroes Game: 14 Nebraska Cornhuskers (9-2, 6-1 B1G) @ Iowa Hawkeyes (4-7, 2-5 B1G), 11 am/ABC

M – Iowa isn’t the “Rival” I prefer that the Huskers face on the post-Thanksgiving Day meeting but again nothing I can do about that. Nebraska wins and they are going to Indy next week as they dismantle the Hawkeyes in Iowa City. The Pick: Nebraska 35 Iowa 13
J – Easy day for Pelini’s bunch. What’s Kirk Ferentz’s buyout number again? The Pick: Nebraska 30 Iowa 7

Battle for the Golden Boot: 7 LSU Tigers (9-2, 5-2 SEC) @ Arkansas Razorbacks (4-7, 2-5 SEC), 1:30 pm/CBS
M – Smile John L. Smith your season from hell is ovah after the Baylor Bangles beat you down. The Pick: LSU 27 Arkansas 17
J – Another 10-win year for the Tigers but I wonder how happy LSU fans are with Les Miles. I think they’d be completely insane to be anything other than content but hey this is the SEC after all. The Pick: LSU 37 Arkansas 10

Saturday
19 Michigan Wolverines (8-3, 6-1 B1G) @ Ohio State Buckeyes (11-0, 7-0 B1G), 11 am/ABC

M – Michigan’s mood probably will be the same even knowing if they are playing for the Legends division title by game time. Urban’s team no doubt wants to win this game to finish unbeaten and set up 2013. The Pick: Ohio State 35 Michigan 31
J – Ohio State fans hoping for a split AP title might be my new favorite subplot of the year. The Pick: Ohio State 33 Michigan 10

Civil War: 5 Oregon Ducks (10-1, 7-1 Pac-12) @ 15 Oregon State Beavers (8-2, 6-2 Pac-12), 2 pm/Pac-12 Network
M – This should be a good match-up between these in-state rivals but Oregon won’t be in the mood to mess around. The Pick: Oregon 42 Oregon State 24
J – A mad Oregon team that still has an outside shot at the title game? You want no part of that.  The Pick: Oregon 45 Oregon State 27

4 Florida Gators (10-1, 7-1 SEC) @ 10 Florida State Seminoles (10-1, 7-1 ACC), 2:30 pm/ABC
M – Florida are “paper” Gators in my opinion and I think the ‘Noles extend their winning streak in this series. The Pick: Florida State 42 Florida 31
J – I abstain because….well, I am not about to jinx this game #toonervous However, The Pick: This Game 1 My Sanity 0

Bedlam: 21 Oklahoma State Cowboys (7-3, 5-2 Big XII) @ 13 Oklahoma Sooners (8-2, 6-1 Big XII), 2:30 pm/ESPN
M – Who doesn’t like some Bedlam? Last year the ‘Pokes won to clinch the conference title but usually don’t win in Norman just as Bob Stoops doesn’t lose three times at home. The Pick: Oklahoma 20 Oklahoma State 13
J – Clint Chelf has had a good run since being pressed into starting duty at QB but a backup on the road in a rivalry game is tough to pick with. No matter if the opponent has a history of tripping up where they shouldn’t. The Pick: Oklahoma 30 Oklahoma State 21

8 Stanford Cardinal (9-2, 7-1 Pac-12) @ 17 UCLA Bruins (9-2, 6-2 Pac-12), 5:30  pm/FOX
M – These teams will meet again up the coast should Stanford win this game. UCLA has been better than expected but can they move the ball on a stout Cardinal defense? The Pick: Stanford 24 UCLA 21
J – Both teams come in riding a huge emotional wave, but I look for Jonathan Franklin to put the home blue over the top. The Pick: UCLA 33 Stanford 28

Battle for the Jeweled Shillelagh: 1 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (11-0) @ Southern California Trojans (7-4, 5-4 Pac-12), 7 pm/ABC
M – Those who don’t study history are doomed to repeat it is a saying. No doubt Brian Kelly is telling his team about ND’s history of losing to unranked USC teams through the years. The Pick: Southern California 16 Notre Dame 13
J – I didn’t even know this game had a title, I just thought it was a rivalry game. Ask yourselves this, folks: If Mike Golic was insufferbale when Notre Dame was 3-9, imagine what he’ll be like when they’re playing in the national championship game, that’s why  The Pick: Southern California 31 Notre Dame 17

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (9-2, 4-1 WAC) @ San Jose State Spartans (9-2, 4-1 WAC), 9:30 pm/ESPN2
M – This should just be a fun match-up between teams who might not have the same head coaches next year. It’s also the last time they’ll see one another as WAC opponents. The Pick: Louisiana Tech 52 San Jose State 45 F/OT
J –  I really wanted to see the Bulldogs get some BCS shine, not for anything they did but for the sheer awkwardness of it. The Pick: Louisiana Tech 35 San Jose State 30

Rankings are from BcS Standings

Last Week: Mike (7-3), Jerry (6-4)
