4Quarters Weekly College Pick’em: Jerry and Mike Go Bowling! (Jan. 7 BcS National Championship)

Tonight is the night for the National Championship a month in the making. Here is the conclusion to the 4Q Bowl Pick’em

Hey I’ve closed the cap to four but will come out short so congrats to Jerry for his bowl pick’em victory. We’ve got one last order of business and that’s the national championship game on Monday night in Miami. So who wins the game of traditional powers that will close the 2012 season? Thanks for following along on our picks and we will continue this next season.

Again, instead of giving you each bowl game all at once we’ll give you are picks in a daily dose of them.

Monday – January 7, 2012
BcS Championship Game (Miami, Florida): 25 Kent State Golden Flashes (11-1, 7-1 SEC) v. 1 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (12-0), 7:30 pm/ESPN
M – Last year I didn’t watch the game because I’m anti-SEC so having two teams in that game meant counter programming. Also I felt that Oklahoma State, Stanford or someone else deserved to be in the game. So here we are two historical college football teams meeting in South Florida. Alabama is going for a third crystal football in three years which hasn’t been done since Nebraska in the late 90’s. Notre Dame hasn’t won a title in 20+ seasons and Brian Kelly trying to be the latest Irish coach to win a championship in year three. Neither team has impressed me this year but that’s a matter for another day but I think ND has more to play for plus teams winning back-to-back in the BcS era haven’t fared well. The Pick: Notre Dame 20 Alabama 13
J – Notre Dame has all the elements of an SEC team: Great coaching, phenomenal defense and just kind of figuring it out as it goes along on offense. Keep in mind all the quarterbacks that have beaten the Tide since their 2008 revivial: The Most Overcovered Backup QB In Football History, Brian Johnson, Steven Garcia, Jordan Jefferson (twice), Cam Newton and Johnny Manziel. What do they have in common? All mobile QBs. What does Notre Dame have in Everett Golson? That’s right. With that said, I can’t go against The Champions in a spot like this until they’ve been beaten, but the Fighting Irish will make them sweat for their 3rd title in 4 seasons.  The Pick: Alabama 23 Notre Dame 17

4Quarters Weekly College Pick’em: Jerry and Mike Go Bowling! (Jan. 6 GoDaddy.com Bowl)

Two bowl games remain which also means the curtain is about to close on the 2012 season. Tonight in Mobile, Alabama the GoDaddy.com will take place. Arkansas State returns after facing Northern Illinois last year in the game. They’ll see MAC runner-up Kent State this year which should lead to a fun meeting of offense versus defense.

Again, instead of giving you each bowl game all at once we’ll give you are picks in a daily dose of them.

Sunday – January 6, 2012
GoDaddy.com Bowl (Mobile, Alabama): 25 Kent State Golden Flashes (11-2, 8-0 MAC) v. Arkansas State Red Wolves (9-3, 7-1 Sun Belt), 8 pm/ESPN
M – Full disclosure I saw Arkansas State in person this season and it was the week after Oregon kicked them to the curb. Sure this isn’t Nebraska for Arkansas State but Kent State will be a worthy foe. However, can the Flashes exist without feasting off turnovers like they’ve done all season? The Red Wolves will have as much team speed and talent as Kent State has seen all year and I understand the “win one” for our coach before he leaves but talent is talent I’m sure someone has said. The Pick: Arkansas State 49 Kent State 31
J – Arkansas State’s offense has been video game quality all year but may take a bit of hit for this game with Gus Malzahn now residing in a different part of Alabama. Both teams are going through coaching transitions with Kent State’s Darrell Hazell set to take the Purdue job, however Hazell will coach this game because he wants to guide Kent State to their first ever bowl win. Something about that couple with their dynamic running tandem of Dri Archer and Trayion Durham makes me think Hazell gets to see his vision come to life in his final game at Kent State.  The Pick: Kent State 37 Arkansas State 34

4Quarters Weekly College Pick’em: Jerry and Mike Go Bowling! (Jan. 5 BBVA Compass Bowl)

Jerry will officially be the better bowler but there will be contrast to finish up the pick’em so please stick around for that. Today we’ve got a bowl with a pair of 6-6 teams from power conferences.

Again, instead of giving you each bowl game all at once we’ll give you are picks in a daily dose of them.

Saturday – January 5, 2012
BBVA Compass Bowl (Birmingham, Alabama): Pittsburgh Panthers (6-6, 3-4 Big East) v. Mississippi Rebels (6-6, 3-5 SEC), Noon/ESPN
M – We’ve got a bowl with .500 teams from BCS conferences doing battle in Birmingham. Both squads are lead by first year coaches who are loving the extra practices. While I could go on that bowls like this should be eliminated I’ll just save it for another day. Give me the fighting Admiral Akbars over Pitt. The Pick: Mississippi 31 Pittsburgh 28
J – 3rd year in a row in Birmingham for the Panthers and I think they come back with a win this time. Hugh Freeze has done a good job getting the Rebels turned in the right direction but the defense remains one of the weakest in the SEC so expect Tino Sunseri and Ray Graham to exploit it all day. Another Big East over SEC #BEATEMDOWN.  The Pick: Pittsburgh 42 Missisippi 17

4Quarters Weekly College Pick’em: Jerry and Mike Go Bowling! (Jan. 4 AT&T Cotton Bowl)

Last night’s Fiesta Bowl was the start of a two nights of exciting games so hopefully the Cotton Bowl can match it. This might be labeled Big XII-SEC but let’s not forget that A&M still has Big XII DNA in them even with taking to its new surroundings. Here’s hoping for a exciting game at Jerry World tonight in Arlington.

Again, instead of giving you each bowl game all at once we’ll give you are picks in a daily dose of them.

Friday – January 4, 2012
AT&T Cotton Bowl (Arlington, Texas): 9 Texas A&M Aggies (10-2, 6-2 SEC) v. 11 Oklahoma Sooners (11-1, 8-1 Big XII), 7 pm/FOX
M – Teacher versus pupil in this year’s edition of the Cotton Bowl Classic when Kevin Sumlin’s Aggies tangle with Bob Stoop’s Sooners. This game also features Landry Jones versus Heisman winner Johnny Manziel, remember when Jones was thought in that regard? I know OU under stoops struggles in big games, however this is a non-BCS bowl so I think Boomer Sooner will be fine plus they know the opponent well. The Pick: Oklahoma 41 Texas A&M 27
J – We all know about the exploits of Johnny Football so I’ll spare you. This game is defined by 2 questions: 1. Can Oklahoma’s defense stop Johnny Manziel? No 2. Does anyone trust Oklahoma in a big game? HELL NO.  The Pick: Texas A&M 34 Oklahoma 27
