4Quarters Weekly College Pick’em: Jerry and Mike Go Bowling! (Dec. 26 Little Caesars Bowl)

Jerry and I couldn’t have been any more wrong with Monday’s Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl when SMU destroyed Fresno State on Christmas Eve. Here’s hoping that we get back on track with tonight’s Pizza Pizza Bowl at Ford Field.

Again, instead of giving you each bowl game all at once we’ll give you are picks in a daily dose of them.

Wednesday – December 26, 2012
Little Caesars Bowl (Detroit, Michigan): Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (7-5, 4-4 Sun Belt) v. Central Michigan Chippewas (6-6, 4-4 MAC), 6:30 pm/ESPN

M – Somewhere Louisiana Tech is dishearted that 6-6 Central Michigan is bowling while they aren’t. CMU will be the de-facto home team but let’s face it Western Kentucky is the better team and will win the game. Sun Belt teams have done alright in this game recently which is another reason why I’m going with the Hilltoppers. The Pick: Western Kentucky 28 Central Michigan 14
J – Neither team all that impressive with WKU finishing 5th in the Sun Belt and the Chippewas 4th, each team with 32-31 wins over BCS bottom feeders (Kentucky for the Hilltoppers and Iowa for Central Michigan). The difference between these teams is that the Hilltoppers do a slightly better job of getting off the field as Central Michigan gives up over 33 points per game. More importantly, the Hilltoppers need to win just so Bobby Petrino doesn’t get any thoughts of bolting for Mount Pleasant. The Pick: Western Kentucky 37 Central Michigan 24

4Quarters Weekly College Pick’em: Jerry and Mike Go Bowling! (Dec. 24 Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl)

Christmas Eve and the traditional Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl takes place when MWC co-champion Fresno State faces SMU of CUSA. Recapping what on Saturday, Jerry won our New Orleans Bowl head-to-head and takes a one game lead. It’ll remain that way for him regardless through Christmas since we both like the Bulldogs.

Again, instead of giving you each bowl game all at once we’ll give you are picks in a daily dose of them.

Monday – December 24, 2012
Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl (Honolulu, Hawaii): Fresno State Bulldogs (9-3, 7-1 MWC) v. SMU Mustangs (6-6, 5-3 CUSA), 7 pm/ESPN

M – So far the Mountain West co-tri champions are 1-1 this bowl season (San Diego State lost/Boise State won) but this might be the best easiest of the three. David Carr’s younger brother has had a solid season and I expect him to light up the Ponies on Christmas Eve. The Pick: Fresno State 56 SMU 24
J – Outside of a late season win vs. Tulsa (credit where it’s due), the Mustangs record has been padded against Conference USA doormats. This might be the blowout of bowl season. The Pick: Fresno State 52 SMU 17

4Quarters Weekly College Pick’em: Jerry and Mike Go Bowling! (Dec. 22 Bowls)

UCF beating Ball State 38-17 on Friday leads to Jerry and I returning to .500 this bowl season. We could have some separation come with today’s slate. Mr. Durney and I differ on the New Orleans Bowl while agree on the Las Vegas Bowl.

Again, instead of giving you each bowl game all at once we’ll give you are picks in a daily dose of them.

Saturday – December 22, 2012
R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl (New Orleans, Louisiana): East Carolina Pirates (8-4, 7-1 CUSA) v. Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns (8-4, 6-2 Sun Belt), 11 am/ESPN

M – Last year Louisiana-Lafayette won this game against San Diego State in the waning seconds. The crowd will probably be partial again, but expect East Carolina to have a good amount of support. ECU just missed out on the CUSA title game but they are my pick. The Pick: East Carolina 24 Louisiana-Lafayette 20
J – Neither team has all that an impressive of a strength of schedule, in fact the most impressive result is the Ragin Cajuns loss in Gainesville. Louisiana-Lafayette’s explosive offense will give them 2 consecutive December wins in the Superdome. The Pick: Louisiana-Lafayette 45 East Carolina 30

MAACO Bowl Las Vegas (Las Vegas, Nevada): Washington Huskies (7-5, 5-4 PAC-12) v. Boise State Broncos (10-2, 7-1 MWC), 2:30 pm/ESPN
M – Washington probably should be 8-4, maybe even better than that but find a way to get in there own way. Boise State is rolling and Chris Petersen is usually pretty solid in bowls for the Broncos. These teams open 2013 at refurbish Husky Stadium plus one of Petersen’s losses are to UDub but I’ll take BSU. The Pick: Boise State 31 Washington 17
J – Washington for a 7-5 team has an impressive resume with 2 wins over top 10 teams. Don’t forget, Huskies QB Keith Price put on a show in the Alamo Bowl last year against Baylor, he just happened to run into RGIII’s curtain call. That said, you just don’t bet against Chris Petersen and Boise State in bowl games. The Pick: Boise State 41 Washington 31

4Quarters Weekly College Pick’em: Jerry and Mike Go Bowling! (Dec. 21 Beef “O” Brady Bowl)

With the BYU victory Jerry and I both fall to 1-2 this bowl season. We’ve both picked UCF tonight in the Beef “O” Brady Bowl. Can we get back to .500 or will we fall to a dreaded 1-3?

Again, instead of giving you each bowl game all at once we’ll give you are picks in a daily dose of them.

Friday – December 21, 2012
Beef “O” Brady Bowl St. Petersburg (St. Petersburg, Florida): Ball State Cardinals (9-3, 6-2 MAC) v. UCF Golden Knights (9-4, 7-1 CUSA), 6:30 pm/ESPN

M – MAC versus Conference USA at Tropicana Field when Ball State faces Central Florida. The Golden Knights will make the short trip from Orlando to St. Pete on I-4. Ball State had a solid season winning nine games while UCF is coming off a CUSA title game loss. In the end I think the Cardinals come up short against the “home” team. The Pick: UCF 27 Ball State 17
J – Full disclosure: I’m about to be a UCF student starting next month, so I may be slanted here. The Knights were a bounce or two away from going away to Memphis. The one culprit that has failed UCF in their losses has been their offense, while the Cardinals undoing has been their defense giving up at least 35 in their losses. If UCF QB Blake Bortles limits his turnovers and running back Latavius Murray keeps his 2012 pace, they should pick up the win not too far from home. The Pick: UCF 30 Ball State 23

4Quarters Weekly College Pick’em: Jerry and Mike Go Bowling! (Dec. 20 Poinsettia Bowl)

Both Jerry and I started off the bowl season 1-1 after Nevada couldn’t hold its 21, then 17 point leads including being up with 46 seconds left. Each of us had Utah State over Toledo, now we move on to perhaps the bowl with the longest name tonight.

Again, instead of giving you each bowl game all at once we’ll give you are picks in a daily dose of them.

Thursday – December 20, 2012
San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl (San Diego, California): BYU Cougars (7-5) v. San Diego State Aztecs (9-3, 7-1 MWC), 7 pm/ESPN
M – Rocky Long and Bronco Mendenhall have a past, both have worked together at different schools and now meet in the SDCCU Poinsettia Bowl. All of that is fine and dandy but the Cougars offense is awful despite having a salty defense, I like the Aztecs at home in this game. The Pick: San Diego State 20 BYU 10
J – Each could have a better record with a few breaks going their way. The Cougars have owned the all-time series against their former Mountain West rivals, but Riley Nelson will need to have a sensational game for BYU in order to overcome the Aztecs home field advantage. That factor I think will help continue SDSU’s success post-Brady Hoke. The Pick: San Diego State 34 BYU 20

4Quarters Weekly College Pick’em: Jerry and Mike Go Bowling! (Dec. 15 Bowls)

With the regular season over Jerry and I shift into full fledge bowl mode in the pick’em. For those who need the reminder of how the first leg ended. Championship Weekend results we each went 6-4) bringing our season total to both finishing at 92-49 (maybe a recount will be done).

Instead of giving you each bowl game all at once we’ll give you are picks in a daily dose of them.

Saturday – December 15, 2012
Gilden New Mexico Bowl (Albuquerque, New Mexico): Nevada Wolfpack (7-5, 4-4 MWC) v. Arizona Wildcats (7-5, 4-5 PAC-12), Noon/ESPN

M – I believe these two neighbors used to be in the WAC together many moons ago (Chris Ault was probably still at Nevada). RichRod has had a good season but I think the “Pistol” is too much for the ‘Cats in Albuquerque. The Pick: Nevada 56 Arizona 49
J – This game will be decided between which defense can stop the track meet between Arizona’s Ka’Deem Carey and Nevada’s Stefphon Jefferson. Neither team has been all that productive on the defensive side all season, but especially Arizona, whose defense may have cost them a real shot at a Rose Bowl with the kind of offense they have. The Pick: Nevada 45 Arizona 35

Famous Idaho Potato Bowl (Boise, Idaho): Toledo Rockets (9-3, 6-2 MAC) v. Utah State Aggies (10-2, 6-0 WAC), 3:30 pm/ESPN
M – Last season the Aggies lost a heartbreaker to the Ohio Bobcats. Toledo has a solid offense but they’ll find Utah State’s defense is hard to move the ball on. The Pick: Utah State 24 Toledo 17
J – Toledo has a solid resume, but Utah State is 5 points away from being unbeaten and possibly Northern Illinois. The Pick: Utah State 28 Toledo 13
