4Quarters Weekly College Pick’em: Jerry and Mike Go Bowling! (Dec. 27 Bowls)

Both of us took a loss when Western Kentucky decided to go for it on fourth and two instead of trying for the field goal that send the game to OT. With that said today is our first day of multiple bowl games in one day. Three are on the schedule Thursday from Washington D.C. to Charlotte and finishing in San Diego.

Again, instead of giving you each bowl game all at once we’ll give you are picks in a daily dose of them.

Thursday – December 27, 2012
Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman (Washington, D.C.): 24 San Jose State Spartans (10-2, 5-1 WAC) v. Bowling Green Falcons (8-4, 6-2 MAC), 2 pm/ESPN

M – WAC versus MAC match-up in our nation’s capital in a game that honors our military. San Jose State is without its head coach who moved to Boulder. I don’t think that matters as the ten win Spartans go to D.C. and pick up win number 11 which will be celebrated for awhile by the school. The Pick: San Jose State 27 Bowling Green 21
J – This is a sneaky interesting bowl matchup. SJ State gave Stanford a run for it and Bowling Green made Florida all sorts of uncomfortable. Both these teams have terrific defenses, each giving up 15 points per game. The big question coming into this game is how will the Spartans play with their former head coach Mike MacIntyre now at Colorado? The difference will be Spartan QB David Fales, one of the nation’s top 10 in passing yards this year along with 31 TD and only 9 INT. The Falcons best shot to win will be a steady rushing attack of Anthon Samuel and John Pettigrew to keep the SJSU offense off the field. The Pick: San Jose State 30 Bowling Green 21

Belk Bowl (Charlotte, North Carolina): Cincinnati Bearcats (9-3, 5-2 Big East) v. Duke Blue Devils (6-6, 3-5 ACC), 5:30 pm/ESPN
M – Could these two schools known for basketball be destined to be ACC mates someday soon? Who knows but I do think Duke will have a case of the Munchies (Cincinnati’s star QB) as the Bearcats get the win. Congrats to the Blue Devils who will be back to a bowl sooner than it took them this time. The Pick: Cincinnati 35 Duke 14
J – Wait, Duke gets to play in North Carolina for the postseason in football too? Come on! Anyway, David Cutcliffe has done a phenomenal job getting this Duke program to respectability again but the Blue Devils will have all sorts of problems containing Munchie Legaux and George Winn. The Pick: Cincinnati 34 Duke 14

Bridgeport Education Holiday Bowl (San Diego, California): Baylor Bears (7-5, 4-5 Big XII) v. UCLA Bruins (9-4, 6-3 PAC-12), 8:45 pm/ESPN
M – Defense as is the Holiday Bowl tradition will be optional as the Bears and Bruins meet in the latest meeting between the Big XII and PAC-12. Both teams will score at will on the other but I feel UCLA has a few more defensive playmakers whole get Baylor to commit a few more mistakes. The Pick: UCLA 45 Baylor 35
J – This one of the more enticing bowl games of the season, two explosive offenses with two really good coaches (yes, I said it, Jim Mora Jr. is a really good college coach). We know about the exploits of Baylor’s video game offense but this game will be decided as to whether they can stop the Bruins 1-2 combo of Brett Hundley through the air and Johnathan Franklin on the ground. I don’t expect that to happen, but I’m very hopeful for a repeat of this. The Pick: UCLA 47 Baylor 36
