Mascot Bracket…NCAA Men’s Tournament Predictions Sure to go Wrong (1st Edition)

Unlike other brackets this one is chosen by strongest mascot ... in my opinion

I’ve done a bracket yearly in which I pick the stronger mascot, fear not I’ll have a justification for each game. Note records and seeding matter not to me in this bracket. Sit back and enjoy please.

First Four (Dayton, OH):
South – 16 Missississippi Valley State Delta Devils v. 16 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers
– The pick is the Delta Devils, because Southerners in some circles are the devil and top the Hilltoppers
West – 14 BYU Cougars v. 14 Iona Gaels
– Gaels are Irish meaning they’d probably be drunk in this fight which is enough to take down these mormon Cougars
Midwest – 16 Lamar Cardinals v. 16 Vermont Catamounts
– I always bet on a Cat when faced against a bird
Midwest – 12 California Golden Bears v. 12 South Florida Bulls
– The steady golden Bears against the Bulls, I’ll take USF by the ‘horns here in a close one

South Region:
First Round (I don’t buy what the NCAA is selling in the names of the rounds) –
16 Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils v. 1 Kentucky Wildcats
– The Delta Devils advance again in this match-up against the big blue Wildcats
9 Connecticut Huskies v. 8 Iowa State Cyclones
– I’ll take the dust storm from Ames over the Huskies
12 VCU Rams v. 5 Wichita State Shockers
– Rams eat wheat thus ending the Shockers run
13 New Mexico State Aggies v. 4 Indiana Hoosiers
– I’ve not heard a good reasoning to what a Hoosier is so the Aggies get the nod
11 Colorado Buffaloes v. 6 UNLV Running Rebels
– Stampeding Buffaloes are one thing but they are the Running Rebs for a reason
14 South Dakota State Jackrabbits v. 3 Baylor Bears
– Bears over bunnies enough with this
10 Xavier Musketeers v. 7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish
– ND might be fighters but Xavier is armed and dangerous
15 Lehigh Mountain Hawks v. 2 Duke Blue Devils
– They might be blue but the Devils advance over the Mountain Hawks
Second Round –
16 Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils v. 8 Iowa State Cyclones
– I’d like to think that the Delta Devils could control the weather so they advance
13 New Mexico State Aggies v. 12 VCU Rams
– Aggies herd the Rams en route to the sweet 16
6 UNLV Running Rebels v. 3 Baylor Bears
– UNLV runs and shoots away from another animal
10 Xavier Musketeers v. 2 Duke Blue Devils
– Xavier being a religious school believes in the Devil so advantage Duke

West Region:
First Round –
16 Long Island Blackbirds v. 1 Michigan State Spartans
– Easy pick Sparta over the Blackbirds
9 Saint Louis Bilikens v. 8 Memphis Tigers
– Bilikens are pesky and get past these Tigers
12 Long Beach State 49ers v. 5 New Mexico Lobos
– While looking for gold (a.k.a the final prize in this) the 49ers take out the Lobos
13 Davidson Wildcats v. 4 Louisville Cardinals
– Another Cat over Bird result
11 Colorado State Rams v. 6 Murray State Racers
– Tough call here but I’ll take a battering Ram over the Racers (which are horses)
14 Iona Gaels v. 3 Marquette Golden Eagles
– Still drunk off their success of beating the Cougars the Gaels take out the Eagles next
10 Virginia Cavaliers v. 7 Florida Gators
– Gators will be a tough battle for the fancy Cavs but I’ll take Virginia
15 Norfolk State Spartans v. 2 Missouri Tigers
– These Spartans advance past the Tigers
Second Round –
9 Saint Louis Bilikens v. 1 Michigan State Spartans
– Sparta and their legions take out the Bilikens
13 Davidson Wildcats v. 12 Long Beach State 49ers
– 49ers take out the Wildcats and insert your own image of these frontiermen trading in the hide’s
14 Iona Gaels v. 11 Colorado State Rams
– A little liquid curage will be enough in this hard fought win for the Gaels
15 Norfolk State Spartans v. 10 Virginia Cavaliers
– I’ve got to take the Spartans to take out UVa to move on

East Region:
First Round –
16 UNC-Asheville Bulldogs v. 1 Syracuse Orange
– Dogs being color blind help them to move on in the mascot bracket
9 Southern Miss Golden Eagles v. 8 Kansas State Wildcats
– Eagles haven’t soared yet in this tournament and the results continue against the man-cats I mean Wildcats
12 Harvard Crimson v. 5 Vanderbilt Commodores
– Commodores do not come down with Crimson fever here
13 Montana Grizzlies v. 4 Wisconsin Badgers
– If these Badgers were of the honey variety this would be their’s for sure since its not the Grizz advance
11 Texas Longhorns v. 6 Cincinnati Bearcats
– Bevo just grazing around leads to the Bearcats coming in for the win
14 St. Bonaventure Bonnies v. 3 Florida State Seminoles
– Seminoles take out the Bonnies, and ummm sure I know what a Bonnie is (As I walk away from the conversation)
10 West Virginia Mountaineers v. 7 Gonzaga Bulldogs
– Mountaineers will do whatever it takes whether this be burning a couch of teaching the Bulldogs to obey
15 Loyola (MD) Greyhounds v. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes
– At first I was thinking why would anyone feed a Greyhound a poisoness nut but I remember dogs tend not to be wise
Second Round –
16 UNC-Asheville Bulldogs v. 8 Kansas State Wildcats
– I’m a dog person when it comes to these two animals but the K-State man-cat haunts my dreams so they advance
13 Montana Grizzlies v. 5 Vanderbilt Commodores
– This will be a struggle for the Commodores but they will take out the Grizzlies
6 Cincinnati Bearcats v. 3 Florida State Seminoles
– When this one is all said and done with FSU will have a nice Bearcat trophy
10 West Virginia Mountaineers v. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes
– I don’t even thing a heathy diet of Buckeyes could take down a Mountaineer and they won’t

Midwest Region:
First Round –
16 Vermont Catamounts v. 1 North Carolina Tarheels
– I’m going with the Tarheels over the Catemounts in this one, but can see reasoning for both
9 Alabama Crimson Tide v. 8 Creighton Bluejays
– Instead of saying they are elephants I’ll say the Bluejays avoid the red water to advance
12 South Florida Bulls v. 5 Temple Owls
– I don’t give a hoot here and I’m picking the Bulls to move along
13 Ohio Bobcats v. 4 Michigan Wolverines
– Wolverines are angry and that fury takes out the Bobcats
11 North Carolina State Wolfpack v. 6 San Diego State Aztecs
– Aztecs take out a tough band of wolves
14 Belmont Bruins v. 3 Georgetown Hoyas
– Bruins which are in the bear family defeat the ugly dogs as Hoyas are in the bulldog family
10 Purdue Boilermakers v. 7 Saint Mary’s Gaels
– The Boilermakers supreme engineering skills (see what I did) are enough to get past these Gaels
15 Detroit Titans v. 2 Kansas Jayhawks
– I doubt Titans know/believe in these mythical Jayhawks so Detroit moves on
Second Round –
8 Creighton Bluejays v. 1 North Carolina Tarheels
– Bluejays are little birds and I’d love to pick them but in nature I think the Tarheels move on
12 South Florida Bulls v. 4 Michigan Wolverines
– Bulls trample the Wolverines
14 Belmont Bruins v. 6 San Deigo State Aztecs
– Aztecs take out the Bruins
15 Detroit Titans v. 10 Purdue Boilermakers
– Titans are huge but the Boilermakers develope (another engineering theme) a slingshot to fire off the train

Sweet 16:
South –
16 Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils v. 13 New Mexico State Aggies
– The Delta Devils continue to use their southern powers to undermind another opponent
6 UNLV Running Rebels v. 2 Duke Blue Devils
– C’mon they are Rebels so they choose not believe in the Blue Devils
West –
12 Long Beach State 49ers v. 1 Michigan State Spartans
– Spartans take out the 49ers due to being more organized
15 Norfolk State Spartans v. 14 Iona Gaels
– Norfolk State finally take out the nuisance that was the Iona Gaels
East –
8 Kansas State Wildcats v. 5 Vanderbilt Commodores
– Vandy keeps it going with this vitory over K-State
10 West Virginia Mountaineers v. 3 Florida State Seminoles
– This might be my favorite match-up yet and since West Virginia is armed they move along
Midwest –
12 South Florida Bulls v. 1 North Carolina Tarheels
– Bulls are bigger and badder than Tarheels
10 Purdue Boilermakers v. 6 San Deigo State Aztecs
– Another match-up I like but I’ll stay on the Boilers train (I crack myself up)

Elite 8:
South –
16 Mississippi Valley State v. 6 UNLV Running Rebels
– UNLV continues not to believe in the (Delta) Devils and move to the Final Four
West –
15 Norfolk State Spartans v. 1 Michigan State Spartans
– Genernal Izzo leads his Spartans over Norfolk State’s brand
East –
10 West Virginia Mountaineers v. 5 Vanderbilt Commodores
– Vandy has been organized up to this point but WVU brings chaos to the mix and gets the W
Midwest –
12 South Florida Bulls v. 10 Purdue Boilermakers
– Purdue rides past South Florida

Final Four:
6 UNLV Running Rebels v. 1 Michigan State Spartans
– UNLV will not be able to run from Sparty
10 West Virginia Mountaineers v. 10 Purdue Boilermakers
– I’ve praised both teams but I think I’m going with West Virginia in this contest

4Quarters Mascot Bracket National Title Game:
10 West Virginia Mountaineers v. 1 Michigan State Spartans
– The legion of Spartans just send wave after wave which proove to be too much for the Mountaineers
